"Service of Healing & Wholeness" - Oct 26
​With anointing with oil and prayers for healing and wholeness.

 First Lutheran will begin a potentially quarterly Service of Healing & Wholeness. It will be a typical worship service, with the only difference being that Pastor Bethany will offer the ancient practice of anointing with oil, a sign of God’s healing presence and love, during communion. Pastor Bethany and a lay leader will also be available pray with individuals for their individual requests for healing and wholeness.

From the earliest days of the church, healing has been central to the life of faith. The Gospels bear witness to Jesus performing countless miracles of healing—opening the eyes of the blind, restoring strength to the lame, and raising the brokenhearted. The apostles continued this ministry of healing as they journeyed throughout their communities, carrying forward Christ’s compassion and power.

The early church came to know Jesus as the Great Physician—the one who is both doctor and medicine, offering the remedy of himself to those who seek him. In prayer, in anointing, and in the embrace of Christian community, we find God’s Spirit still at work bringing hope, renewal, and wholeness.

Come as you are—whether seeking healing and wholeness for yourself, for a loved one, or simply to stand in solidarity with those in need of God’s care.

Free Meals for Kids

Comidas Gratis para Niños 

This summer, we are excited to be hosting the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s Lunch Bus. From June 10 th to August 23 rd , Mondays through Fridays, they will be distributed free meals to youth. The bus will be here from 10:40AM-11:10AM. You must be 18
years or younger to receive meals, though no registration or identification is required. Meals must be eaten on site.

Please give us a call (708-385-4700) if you would like to volunteer or have any questions!

Este verano, estamos emocionados de ser anfitriones del Lunch Bus del Greater Chicago Food Depository. Del 10 de junio al 23 de agosto, de lunes a viernes, se distribuirán comidas gratuitas a los jóvenes. El autobús estará aquí de 10:40 a. m. a 11:10 a. m. Se debe tener 18 años

Baseball Outing - August 17th

Join us for music, baseball, and fellowship this August at *First Lutheran's baseball outing.*  It is "church night" at Ozinga Field, so we'll be joining Lutheran churches from across the south suburbs.
​
An Elvis band plays at 4:15pm and the game starts at 6:05pm.  Enjoy Fireworks after the show. The cost is $8 per person. 

Please sign up and reserve your ticket by May 26th.  Pay via cash, check, card to First Lutheran by July 28th.

Communion 101 Workshop
July 13, 2024   -   9-11 AM

​Kids of all ages are welcome to this hands-on workshop on the sacrament of holy communion. Then, all participants are welcome to join worship on the following Sunday - July 14, 2024 at 10am for a special “Communion Celebration,” where the whole church will celebrate the participants’ deeper understanding of the sacrament.

Workshop: How to Make Catrinas

Taller: Como hacer Catrinas

First Lutheran is excited to be partnering with a local Blue Island artist to bring this 5-session workshop to the area.  

After five sessions each participant will have their own catrina or catrin. The $25 donation covers all the main materials. The fifth session will include a chance to show your catrina to the public and create a traditional Day of the Dead altar and commemorate your deceased loved ones.

Junto con una artista local, estamos ofreciendo este taller de 5 sesiones a toda la comunidad. 

Al final de estas 5 sesiones, cada participante tendrá su propia catrina o catrin. La donación de $25 cubre el costo de los materiales principales. La quinta sesión habrá un convivio con chance de mostrar su catrina al publico y armar una ofrenda tradicional para el Dia de los Muertos y comemorar sus seres queridos fallecidos.

Discussion Group for Women:
​Managing Holiday Stress & Anxiety

Prepare for what can be an overwhelming time of year while you connect with a local network of women.  Learn practical strategies from a licensed mental health professional.

This is a 3-week discussion group for women over the course of three weeks.
